Mini-KISS

mini-kiss played outside of iggy's on a flatbed truck parked on the street. they took the stage around 9:30/9:45 and played maybe 45 minutes. their set comprised of such hits as 'shout it out loud', 'lick it up', 'detroit rock city', 'beth', and yes, 'crazy train'. "what the fuck is mini-kiss doing singing 'crazy train'", i wondered aloud, with a sour face. mini-"paul" heard me and retorted, "i know kiss wouldn't play this, but we're not kiss." hmm, you're not? jesus, i've been had! of course you're not kiss, fuckface, but you're mini-kiss, which is supposed to be just like kiss, only smaller. you cover kiss tunes, and goddamnit, 'crazy train' is not one of them. that's where i went sour on the whole affair. other things that bothered me- mini-"paul" took off her wig to expose her mouse-brown alanis morrissette hair, mini-"gene" went to play drums while mini-"peter" played bass, and the tie for worst offense goes to the following 2 travesties- the band wasn't even really playing because their hands were too small and the mini-"demon" chose to do his blood show during 'crazy train'. what the fuck?! have you no reverence?!

so, it all started off cute and awesome, cause they were rockin' like they were all about kiss, but then they quickly bastardized everything and turned me off like stage 4 cancer. if there's one thing i know about kiss, it's that they are known for their tight-assedness about being professional and putting on a good show. mini-kiss didn't seem to care cause apparently when you're little and think you're cute, you don't have to.

all that said, i still had a great time. grinder girl was there, and she was quite the show. also, iggy's is the best outdoor hangout in chicago, just don't go on their birthday when they are flooded with patrons. you'll never get a drink.

my last mini-kiss comment. i think it's appropriate that mini-"paul" was a girl. of course, mini-"paul" was a lot more manly in her girliness than regular-sized-paul is.
